April 2026

Six writers of the Group met on 10^th April to share stories based on the theme of 'The Bridge'. Everyone present chose a different interpretation of the phrase, ranging from physical structures to emotional ties between family and friends. Joan provided a history of the numerous, and sometimes confusing, locations of the bridges situated in our City, while David used a recent trip to highlight 'a bridge too far'. There was a story about how bridges, often combined with height, provoked a fearful reaction, particularly the unstable swinging rope bridges. Others shared this response. There was an account about family members building a bridge to heal a relationship split, with another story about building a bridge around cultural connections.

Not surprisingly such diverse narratives generated considerable discussion. The conversation was, as usual, both stimulating and informative.

Thank you to Joan for hosting the Group and providing a delicious afternoon tea. Our next meeting will revert to the first Friday in the month (1st May). The prompt for that meeting is 'Leaving Home'.
