MAY - TEN PINB BOWLING - Ray King

As you may be aware, the Club organised its first foray into tenpin bowling last August and it had been decided that this year we would have three events during the cooler months. Just like the last event, it was an enjoyable day. We had eleven bowlers and a spectator (me). The ambiance at Healthways is great with no background music or other distractions. This gave everyone the chance to chat and cheer on the efforts of others. Praise was plentiful, as was commiseration.

It was excellent work by Mark to break the hundred score “mark” with Richard and Elizabeth snapping at his heels. Regardless of their individual scores, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We finished our game with plenty of time to spare and ten of us motored off to the Blackburn Hotel for lunch. A table in the Atrium gave us a quiet location where we could solve the problems of the world and hear what others were saying. Time flew and 2pm arrived all too soon. So off we went to our separate situations, all looking forward to the next round of bowling in July.

MINI GOLF AT MORACK GOLF CLUB – Anne Osman

On April 23 a cheerful group of 18 Probus folk lined up for a serious game of Mini Golf bringing all their skills to bear in a battle against the landscape and reluctant golf balls. Some succeeded with a flourish while others of us basked happily in the sunshine on a truly glorious day and cheered when our ball stayed on the course.

Morack Golf Course reopened two years ago after a major redevelopment of the club house, driving

range and mini golf by City of Whitehorse. Having tested our talents over 9 or 18 holes the group sat down for lunch from the café on the terrace overlooking the course.

Thanks to everyone who joined in and made it a fun day.

COMO HOUSE TOUR

Como House: Lunch and Tour – Thursday 29 January 2026

On a beautiful summer’s day in late January, two dozen members assembled at Como Lane to embark on the day’s activities. Many were there early enough to take a leisurely stroll through some of the gardens and/or the National Trust gift shop prior to lunch. Fortunately, the temperature was at least 15 degrees cooler than the previous Tuesday, so it was quite a pleasant environment for a wander.

As the time arrived for lunch, we trooped into the Como Lane Pavilion, which had been tastefully set up with a set of tables, covered with white tablecloths, organised as a single long table to seat us all. This was complemented by a few vases with spring flowers. In this lovely setting we all enjoyed a brunch of rapidly served meals which everyone seemed to enjoy immensely. The staff were great and everyone appeared to enjoy the whole experience.

With around thirty minutes until the commencement time for the tour, members enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the Mansion to the front door where we were to meet our NTV tour guides.

The tour of Como Mansion was most interesting and enjoyable. It was a wonderful look at the early history of Victoria and the affluence in Melbourne from the mid nineteenth century through to more recent times. It was not rushed; so there was plenty of time to carefully look at the well-preserved artefacts in each room.

Wrapping up a little before 3pm, a number stayed on for a coffee and chat at Como Lane whilst others headed straight home due to the need to accommodate the constraints of the four hour parking zone in which their vehicles were located.

All in all, a fantastic day enjoyed by all.

Lunch and tour at Como House was a great success and we had a wonderful look at the early history of Victoria and the affluence in Melbourne in the 1850 era through to more recent times. Ably led by National Trust volunteer David Behan who shared his knowledge of the building and the history.

Thanks to Coordinator : Ray King from us all as he did a great job in the organization of the day.
