President's Post - July 2026
The finger lunch on the 17th June was an impressive display of the cooking skills of many of the members.
It was appreciated and enjoyed by all. Unfortunately, our special guest, Mayor Karen Vernon, could not stay to socialise but was able to give us a brief update on Council plans before leaving.
The Council organised a networking event for clubs, Ron Stephenson, and I attended. It turned out to be a full-on workshop discussing club organisational issues and Council services.
Attracting new members was a common issue. A telephone advisory service provided by the Council or volunteers could refer seniors’ enquiries to the organisations that had attended the workshop was suggested. The committee continues to explore new events and speakers for the pleasure of members.
Jan and Dale did a reconnaissance train trip to Pinjarra on the Australind train but found the walk from the Pinjarra station to café could be a challenge for some members. The Australind train goes to Bunbury so an overnight stay could be considered.

JUNE 2026
Thanks to a very active committee and coordinators for a full and interesting month.
It was a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome to Government House by the host Governor Mr Chris Dawson on 14th May. I was impressed by the number of Probians who attended (about 200) and I really enjoyed finding out where members came from and to learn something about their Club. I look forward to exchange visits in the future.
On 20th May members were in awe of the capabilities of drones used by the Police Department to catch law breakers. Nothing for us to worry about said the guest speaker Airwing Superintendent Paul Daly (tongue in cheek). Safety in the community is the objective.
It was a fond farewell to our Life Members at a special morning Tea on 28th May. Lyn, Bruce McMeekin, and Jan Henderson gave us some nostalgic stories from the past. Fran Wilson displayed an old photo album depicting past GETAWAY holidays. It was good to see Nell Turton looking bright and well at the high tea. We assured them of a warm welcome if they came along to the Club anytime in the future.
Di Silcock was welcomed as a member following her induction to the Club at the May meeting.

Presidents Post – MAY 2026
An unavoidable late change for the general meeting to Friday 17th May may have been a disappointment to some members but most attended and were rewarded with an entertaining presentation by Richard Offen speaking about the origins of the “seaside holiday”. It prompted nostalgic memories for some members who shared their stories of their bygone family holidays at the beach in Australia and England. The train trip to Byford was a great success enjoyed by 23 members. Join in the fun with friends at the Collier Park golf club on 27th May. All comers welcome.
At the committee meeting on 13th May plans for the rest of 2026 were discussed. An amazing variety of speakers, outings, celebrations and some surprises to come.

President's Post - APRIL 2026
A warm welcome to all the new office bearers for the 2026-2027 term. I hope you will find your role interesting and enjoyable.
Joining the committee members who re-nominated: Ron Stephenson, Ian Paynter, Anita Searle and Ann Kennish, are four new committee members (secretaries) Lyn West and Sue Hennessy, plus Lea Newing and Bridget Hilton.
Thank you to all members who assisted with the various aspects of organising the AGM and Handover Lunch, especially Brian McIntyre, Linda Footman and Lyn West, and of course all the loyal members who attended to make the AGM a success

President's Post - MARCH 2026
Serving on the Club’s committee as President in 2025-26 gave me an opportunity to work with an enthusiastic committee to provide a year of interesting outings and events for members.
My sincere thanks to them and to all office bearers for contributing to the ongoing success of the Club. I have valued their comments, suggestions and willingness to support me as President.
Many of the office bearers have re-nominated for 2026-27 including myself. The Club has ended the year in a strong position with good membership and a healthy bank balance.
