Activities
Our regular once a month activities include –
Breakfast Walkers - A Monday morning walk along the stunning Cronulla seafront, at your own pace, with a chat and coffee afterwards.
Cards - held at Kirrawee, on a Tuesday morning. Around 40 members attend. We play 500, Canasta and Sequence.
Crafty Ladies - held on a Friday morning at Gymea Bowling Club. A fun and friendly morning with like-minded ladies happy to share their skills. Lots of chatting and good company. Our ladies have produced over 1,000 'Teddies' for the Red Cross.
Lawn Bowls - held at Caringbah Bowling Club on the Wednesday morning after our monthly meeting. Members often stay for a chat and delicious lunch afterwards. Beginners are welcome.
Croquet - held on a Tuesday morning at Sutherland. Equipment and tuition supplied by Sutherland Croquet Club.
Huff and Puffers - held on a Monday morning. An active group that enjoys walks around Sydney and elsewhere that are approx 5klm-8klm. Narrabeen Lakes, Sculptures by the Sea, Thirroul, Balmain, Ashfield, Seacliff Bridge are some of our most recent walks.
Book Exchange - a large selection of books and magazines are available for our members to borrow, read and return or pass on. Donations of good quality books are always welcome. We have a large selection to suit all tastes. Our books are regularly recycled to make room for new titles, with recycled books donated to local charities.
Book Club - held at Gymea Trade Union Club on the 3rd Friday of the Month. Meet for coffee, a chat and discussion on the Book of the Month. Books are supplied by Sutherland Library.
Guest Speakers - Each month at our meeting we have a Guest Speaker. Our Guest Speakers are from all walks of life. They can bring to us some very interesting stories, information that is both relevant and informative, and they entertain us.
Other monthly activities and outings include -
Galloping Gourmets meet for lunch every second month at a variety of restaurants. A great way to enjoy a selection of foods at a variety of local and Sydney restaurants, in good company, and at a set price.
Special Yearly Events - Christmas in July and our Annual Christmas Luncheon, St Patricks Day lunch and a fun filled Trivia day with a light lunch.
Theatre/Entertainment – matinee theatre parties at the Lyric Theatre, Capital Theatre and the Opera House. Also shows at Cronulla Arts, Sutherland Entertainment Centre and Guild Theatre Rockdale. All our theatre groups are daytime matinees.
Coach and train outings - our members have enjoyed days at Kembla Grange races, Bass & Flinders Cruise on Georges River, Nan Tien Temple, Historical sites around Sydney, Auburn Botanical Garden for Cherry Blossoms, Sydney Harbour Cruises, Cancer Council Research Centre, Sydney Fish Market's, Warragamba Dam and the new Badgery's Creek Airport and Vivid are just a few of the many and wonderful and regular outings our members enjoy.
Van Wrinklies – Each year, our “grey nomads” and cabin dwellers enjoy a week away, usually within eight hours’ drive of Sydney. March or October are our preferred times. Great company and evening happy hours to share our day's activities.
Tours and Holidays – Well costed, good value tours offer us the opportunity to travel within Australia and Overseas with people we know. Broken Hill, New England area, Great Ocean Road, Murray River Paddle streamer. Montville and the Sunshine Coast, Canberra and Floriade, the coast road to Melbourne and a visit to see the Little Penguins are just a few of our Australian tours recently undertaken. Overseas holidays have included Hawaii, Croatia, China, Vietnam, Canada & Alaska and Japan in Cherry Blossom, Italy, France, Switzerland and a Scenic River Cruise with our latest trip being Singapore. New Zealand is planned for 2027.
