Common Interest Groups & Outings

Photography Group:

April

Our next Photography outing will be on Thursday 16 April 2026, to the Mt Bold Reservoir and Crystal Lake Sculpture Park at Macclesfield.

Mt Bold Reservoir entry is from the Mt Bold Road off of Kangarilla Road between Clarendon and Kangarilla, where we can walk across the reservoir wall and found out information about the reservoir and how it fills Happy Valley Reservoir. After that we will drive to Mt Bold Reservoir Lookout, for stunning views over the reservoir,  off of Saddle Bags Road, about 1 km return walk from the Mt Bold Reservoir Reserve. Note there are currently road works along the road between Clarendon and Kangarilla.

Next stop is the Crystal Lake Sculpture Park at the end of Macclesfield town, off of Devereux Road.  The park has unique sculptures of marble and stone from materials from local quarries.  Three quarters of the sculptures are made from local pink, blue and white marble.

After the visit to the park, we can have lunch at the Macclesfield Hotel, home to “South Australia’s Best Snitties” at 12 noon.

So bring appropriate clothes to suit the weather conditions for the day, plus water and hat, and cameras and/or mobiles.

So if you (and your partner) want to go, please let me know at the Club’s meeting on Thursday 9 April 2026, by placing your name on the activity sheet and mark the sheet accordingly, including if you need a ride or going directly there.

May

Our Photography outing for May will hopefully be on Sunday 31 May 2026 to Kingston’s Historic House 5 Cameron Ave Kingston Park.

The month of May is History Month in SA and Kingston’s Historic House is having a talk on “Lives and Antics of Sir George Kingston and His son Charles Kingston” at the house with Devonshire Tea from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.  The cost is $10 per person.

Sir George Kingston came to South Australia as Deputy Surveyor General to Colonel William Light. Did he select the site for City of Adelaide and the design? What role did Charges Kingston play as Premier of South Australia, in the federation of Australia, the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), and many other antics!  Enjoy a delicious Devonshire Tea and hear about the two generations of the Kingston Family.

I have sent them an email requesting 12 seats (or more) for this event and asking can we look over the house and gardens as a self-guided tour as a photography group, which they allow for other Sunday events at this house.

The purpose of putting this information out now is so that you can let me know ASAP if you want to go.  I suspect we would have to pay for the booking at $10pp ASAP before it is booked out.  I am happy to pay for the booking for everyone to guarantee our seats and you can reimburse me.
