PRESIDENT’S COLLEEN MCRAE'S MESSAGE
in the Canberra Lakes Ladies Probus Club's April 2026 Newsletter
Good morning Ladies
I would like to start by saying thank you sincerely for choosing me as your President for 2026/27, and I hope that I’m able to continue with the same success as previous Presidents, in keeping Canberra Lakes Ladies Probus Club a place of interest and learning. This will be achieved by listening to interesting Guest Speakers that visit us, and the venues that are chosen to visit, for the coming year.
Firstly, a big thank you to Joan Keith our outgoing President. She is a wonderful example for me to follow, and I’m very grateful to the ladies who have come onto the Committee to help me. We do have some vacant positions that need to be filled and with some gentle persuasion, I hope to welcome some of you onto the Committee to keep our Club going. It is a team environment, and we only meet 4 times through-out the year as a Committee, just to check in that the Club is going the way it should be.
Most importantly for me, I want our club to be a warm, friendly, and welcoming place. A place where Members want to be on the 3rd Monday of each month, to be stimulated and wanting to bring friends along to meet us, and hopefully join with us, and enjoy what Probus is all about, fun and friendship in retirement.
We currently have a group of ladies who play Mahjong, another group enjoying the opportunity of finding a new book to read and share with others, and those who like company to see a movie. The experience of finding a new coffee shop and passing on to members the verdict as to it being good or not so good, has been part of our social outings, and Edna has done a wonderful job at finding them. There are many activities we can do to broaden our horizons, Canberra is a beautiful city to live in, so please think of simple, fun activities you would like to do occasionally, and advise me or a Committee Member, so that we can help in any way to accommodate your interest.
Today we have access to the Probus South Pacific magazine which is full of interesting news from other clubs and suggestions of places to see and holidays that may be of interest. You pay for this as part of your Memberships Fees, you never know, you may see someone you know or a trip on offer you would like to take while looking through the pages.
Thank you. Colleen MacRae
