The Club Management Committee organises and sponsors the following activities:

  Social Functions and Special Events

The Club organises many successful social functions for the enjoyment of members. Foremost amongst these are the mid-year and end-of-year lunches, greatly enjoyed by members and partners. The upstairs and ground-level lounges of the Bowling Club are  popular venues for meetings and functions.

The Club endeavours to maintain a programme of extraordinary events at approximately two-month intervals to visit places of interest or luncheon or dinner venues that are attractive to all members and their partners. Coordinated travel arrangements for these events are arranged by the Club if necessary.

Details of upcoming functions and events are published in the monthly newsletter.

Special event-                                  45th Anniversary Celebratory Lunch at Annabels

The men’s Probus Club of St Heliers celebrated its 45 th anniversary on Wednesday, making our Probus club
the oldest Men's club in New Zealand

30 th September 2026. President John Danvers addressed a group of 40 members,
accompanied by many wives and partners, to enjoy lunch at
Annabelles restaurant in St Heliers village. He noted the club has 66 active
members, including 3 life members. He extended a special welcome to life members
Rex Pearson and to the wife of Ross Burnell, who was unable to attend.
The club has a well-supported social programme and is in good financial health.
Gary Preston, a Past President, recounted that when he joined in 2011, there were
95 members and that this club has always had a strong membership. All current life
members were members at that time.
This club meets monthly on the fourth Friday of each month, except December, at
the St Heliers Bowling Club to hear a range of very interesting speakers.

Regular
social activities include a weekly get together for happy hour at a local restaurant
(always well attended!), fortnightly walking at various parks in the area, a weekly
“serious” walking group (not less than 90 minutes), weekly golf at a local 9-hole
course, monthly investment meetups and a monthly coffee gathering. In addition,
members, wives and partners gather for a Monday social evening at the Bowling
Club every three months, mid-year and end of year lunches. Over the course of a
year, we also arrange a number of interesting outings.
