Somerville and District Heritage Society
Tyabb and Somerville, were once at the heart of Australia’s apple and pear industry. As the area developed, orchards became central to the local economy.The Somerville Fruit Growers’ Association, founded in 1892, held its first annual show in 1895. This event grew to become the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, drawing attention to the area’s agricultural success and establishing Somerville as a key horticultural hub.
