Oran Park is a suburb in the Macarthur Region of South Western Sydney. Oran Park is located in the local government area of Camden Council, 59 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district
The south-western and western part of the original estate adjacent to the intersection of Cobbitty Road and The Northern Road was the location of the Oran Park Motor Racing Circuit. The main grand prix circuit was 2.6 kilometres long with a mixture of slow, technical and fast sweeping corners as well as changes in elevation around the track.
The racing circuit was rezoned for housing in 2004 and the first Oran Park home sites were released for sale in late March 2010.
Following the receipt of a letter from Probus South Pacific late in 2013 regarding setting up a Probus Group in Oran Park a meeting was arranged for 4th February 2014 at the local information centre. This meeting was advertised in the area and was run by the Probus South Pacific in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Narellan. Around 60 people attended. Those attending the meeting agreed that a Probus Club should be set up in this area.
A Committee was elected at the 4th February 2014 meeting and thus saw the commencement of ther ORAN PARK PROBUS CLUB. The first official Club meeting was held on Tuesday 4th March 2014. Our foundation membership on that date was 81 and the first Newsletter was distributed to members.
In March 2015 the Club was Incorporated and became ORAN PARK PROBUS CLUB INC.
Our original meeting hall was provided by the The Oran Park Town Sales and Information Centre and with growth we needed larger premises and moved to the NewLife Anglican Church, Oran Park NSW 2570.
All was well until March 2020 when the Covid-19 Pandemic closed all venues. We carried on by using live ZOOM Meetings and continuing with our monthly 'Probian' newsletter plus emailing regular updates from PSPL to all our members.
In October 2020 we were able to secure Wests Camden Lakeside Function Centre as a meeting place for our monthly General Meetings, and even with the Covid Regulations were able to seat up to 78 members - dining facilities were also available after the meetings.
We are back to normal programming and, through the Club Grants System we remain at Wests, our function room can now seat up to 130. So looking to grow our membership.
We look forward to greeting visitors and new members to all of our meetings, first Tuesday each month, except January (holidays) and November when this clashes with the Melbourne Cup! Email me if you wish to come along.
