Mid -Year Buffet Luncheon. – ‘The 19th Hole Café’, Akarana Golf Course, 1388 Dominion Rd, Mt Roskill.
A buffet style presentation in a room overlooking the Greens. There is also a bar with a wide selection of offerings. The bar will be open from 11.00 with lunch from 12.00.
Parking Access - Drive through the automatic opening gates with good parking available in any non-labelled space. There is a very good bus service via Dominion Rd.
Cost: $40, the opening of the bar is subsidised from the outings budget (drinks at personal expense). Also to round out the meal you can purchase tea or coffee from the cafe.

July- Thursday 16th
Thames-The School of Mines and Goldmine Experience.
Postponed from May due to museum closure
Depart 9:00am by bus - Manukau Rd, Royal Oak and head south to Thames. Stopping at Corner Stone Cafe for Devonshire tea.
On to Thames - visit the School of Mines (Current entrance at old Carnegie Library)705 Queen St. This is where new arrivals learned the skills for gold mining. - History of mining in NZ, models of how machines of yesteryear operated; how science and technology was taught in the past; maps, mining documents and historic photos. Notably - the mineralogical museum houses one of the largest collections in the southern hemisphere.
We then break for lunch (at own expense) in Thames township with many cafes and little shops. Return to Carnegie Library for a short bus trip to Gold Mining Experience Building. We have a guided tour through 19th century tunnels - underground experience of working mining machines including a big Battery Stamper. (NB: there are 8 steps, a hand rail and assistance provided). Sturdy shoes advised.
By 3:00pm we hope to be on our way home.
Cost: $55 - includes morning tea, entry to School of Mines and Gold Mining Experience. Bus has subsidy from the outing's budget.
